Provenance

For writers, screenwriters, researchers, and anyone whose process matters.

If you did the work,
Provenance shows it.

A local-first ledger for your creative process. Every save, every check-in, every source, recorded quietly while you write. When the work gets questioned, you have the record.

The Provenance ledger: a timestamped, hash-chained record of every source, note, and save in a project.
Why it exists

The finished file shows the result, never the road there. Provenance keeps the road: a quiet record that builds beside your work and exports to a single document anyone can read.

What gets recorded

Provenance watches your project folder. Three things go into the ledger, and every one of them is something you saved or chose to add.

File saves
Every change to a tracked file, captured as a timestamp, a word count, and a git snapshot.
Check-ins
A short note on how a session went, in your own words, timestamped into the ledger.
Sources
The URLs, passages, and files you choose to log as references. You add what belongs.
The Process Record

Export the whole story as one self-contained file that opens in any browser: the overview, your notes, the version history, your sources, and the full ledger in order. At the bottom, an Authenticity attestation lets anyone confirm the record wasn't touched after it was made.

Hand it to a publisher, a grant committee, or a portfolio reviewer. Nothing else to install.

The exported Process Record overview: project summary, description, and working notes.
Overview: the project, its intent, and your working notes.
The Authenticity section of the exported record: genesis hash, chain head, and verification steps.
Authenticity: the hash chain and step-by-step verification.
Built to be trusted
Yours alone
No server, no account, no sync. The ledger lives in a .ledger folder beside your files. Delete it and Provenance forgets.
Tamper-evident
Every entry is hash-chained to the one before it. Change anything after the fact and the chain breaks, visibly. Verify it yourself.
Plain files
Markdown and JSON you can open in any editor. Export as Markdown, PDF, or a structured bundle whenever you like.
